Where it comes from
A natural hybrid of water mint and spearmint, first recorded in England in the 1600s and now grown worldwide.
How it’s been used through history
Dried mint leaves were placed in Egyptian tombs, and Greek and Roman households strewed mint on floors and served it after meals. European and American home herbals of the 1800s kept peppermint tea as the everyday remedy for an unsettled stomach and a heavy head.
